This week in EDCI 336 we talked about our citizenship online as well as lots of group presentations!

The citizen ship online part of the class was terrifying- a little. You know when people say “what you post online is there forever, so be careful.” It never really clicked until I googled myself. Luckily, I have a nick name that is sometimes never associated with my full name- sometimes people think that my nick name is actually my full name so when I googled my full name, I was surprised when not much came up. When I googled Christina Seabrook, UVIC the only thing that came up that was actually about me and not someone with the same name was a few posts on Facebook that I have liked posted by the UVIC Women’s Volleyball team that 2 of our classmates actually play on- so obviously if they are in the posts, you knowwww I am sending a thumbs up.

I am fortunate that not more comes up when I search my full name- not saying I have lived a crazy life- I had first responders as parents growing up so feel like my teenage years and early adulthood were lived quite tamed. HOWEVER. My whole life, people have called me Tina. In the official school transcripts and archives of my high school, everything says Tina. My high school diploma also said Tina and I had to get it changed- oops. Anyway, when I search up Tina Seabrook, it’s like I am a whole new person!

Sooke News Mirror articles of me winning academic awards in high school for French, Spanish and Social Studies. My online coaching profile from the Island Championships for volleyball, as well as my online board member profile for Sooke Soccer come up as well. Something else that comes up is my soccer teams championship campaign last season when we won Division 3 and moved up to Division 2- I scored the goal to open the game and earned MVP honours after scoring my penalty kick to win the game for us as well. So many things. I feel like a whole new person.

Nothing crazy. Nothing that I am worried about I guess I would say… although it is a weird feeling knowing that there are things out there about me that even I don’t know about…

I think don’t think that anything that has come up will hurt my reputation in the future.. a lot of it is volunteering which is always a good things, as well as some academic info that is older, but still shows the character I have I guess?

I think now though as I get older and I move into a professional setting, I should start putting things out there with my full name rather than my nick name as sometimes I feel like its confusing on who I am or what is actually me, when in reality its all about me but doesn’t seem like it.

I think overall I am quite happy with the results of googling myself… I seem like a pretty cool person.
